What is a personal certificate?

A personal certificate is a USB token or smart card that enables the certificate administrator to create a legally valid digital signature on behalf of the organization associated with the certificate.

Secure communication requires certainty about the identity of the parties involved. When exchanging confidential information with a government organization, you need to be confident that the information cannot be intercepted or altered.

A PKIoverheid Personal Certificate provides individual employees with a secure means of protecting electronic transactions. Personal certificates can be used for a wide range of applications.

You will receive either a USB token or a smart card containing your personal certificate.

This type of certificate also enables you to apply for eHerkenning EH4.
