What is a Professional Certificate?
A Professional Certificate is a PKIoverheid certificate issued to individuals who practise a recognised profession.
All Professional Certificates are essentially the same and can be used for general applications such as:
- Digitally signing or encrypting email.
- Legally signing PDF documents.
- Applying for eHerkenning EH4.
The certificate is provided on either a USB token or a smart card.
Examples of recognised professions and common applications
| Profession | Typical Applications |
|---|---|
| Notaries | Electronic submission of documents to the Dutch Land Registry (Kadaster), CDR, and the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK). |
| Accountants | Authorization, authentication, secure communication, and digitally signing an organisation's annual financial statements. |
| Bailiffs | Electronic submission of writs of summons, digitally signing and encrypting email, and electronic third-party attachment procedures. |
